Enter Sandman
Metallica
1991
During my freshman year of high school, I was introduced to the world of early-morning seminary. For my non-LDS friends, this is basically bible study before school. My ride to and from seminary and then to school was with a family friend, Ginger and her sister, Kelli. From my memory, Ginger had like three musical artists in her repertoire: Metallica, Metallica, and also….Metallica. Actually, that’s not quite true. Yes, there was a lot of Metallica. But Ginger actually had three artists that I recall her listening to, and it was the most random of pairings: Metallica, Don McLean (wut), and….wait for it….Jesus Jones. Yeah, Jesus Jones. I don’t know, maybe it was the seminary talking and Ginger just needed some Jesus Jones to go with the real Jesus. And it wasn’t even the one Jesus Jones song that everyone knows, it was this song called Real Real Real. I mean, I don’t know how to tie the thread between For Whom the Bells Tolls, American Pie, and Real Real Real, but if you do, then you should’ve been the one riding in the backseat with Ginger in 1991.
Anyways, that is by far the most words I have ever written about Jesus Jones, and you didn’t come here to hear about Jesus Jones. You came here to read about Enter Sandman, one of the classic rock songs ever. Actually, forget it. You already know all about Enter Sandman. You just needed to hear the Ginger story to complete your understanding. You’re welcome.
