Joyride
Roxette
1991

To paraphrase the legendary Gene Frenkle, this list doesn't have a whole lot of songs that feature a Swedish pop duo.  (Say it, baby!) We just changed that.

This song still rocks, 30 years later.  Right from that opening line:  "Hello! / You fool /  I love you" it just grabs you in.  The guitar licks are on point.  The whistling is on point.  Whispering the name of your own band in your song...is on point.  And the Sweden oozing through your speakers is on point.

It's just kind of amazing that these guys weren't bigger than they were, other than (a) early '90s was all grunge, all the time, and (b) they probably were huge in Europe and we didn't even know it (if only there was a way we could figure it out?).  Joyride...what a banger.
