Banana Pancakes
Jack Johnson
2005

And speaking of getting too soft in my old age!  So when Jack came out with his debut album in 2001, I wasn't a huge fan.  I'm not even 25 years old at that point, I'm like, who in the world needs children's songs for adults?  A few years later, I was given (given is the word used to describe a dubbed copy of a CD - remember those days?) Jack's "yellow" album (In Between Dreams) by my friend Trent, and my world has never been the same.  Apparently 25 is the threshold to cross over before you can start appreciating children's songs for adults.

Anyway, I love this one from Jack.  It just puts you in a good mood from the moment you hear that opening hook.  And it sounds like you're just locked inside on a rainy day with your lover (watch from the 4:00 mark on -- just a classic) with some banana pancakes going on the griddle.  (Actually, I just listened to it and that's probably because there is, in fact, some kind of rain sound at the beginning of the track.  But the point remains.)  And when Jack sings, "We got everything we need right here / And everything we need is enough," there's nothing bad that can happen!

I had a hard time pinning down exactly which Jack song I was going to take (all from In Between Dreams!), but there was no doubt he was making the list.  Give me this gentle soul with the soothing vocals all day - the captain of Team Good Vibes!
