What I Like About You
The Romantics
1980

When I think of just pure fun songs, this one is near the top of my list. The clap-clap-clap-clap at the beginning. The “hey! hey! hey! hey!” at the end. The rare drummer who doubles as lead singer. Fun stuff! It’s an excellent road trip song. On that front, fun story: when my good buddy Trent and I took a road trip to Provo in May 1996 just before my mission, and just as Tiffany and I had started dating, we filmed ourselves doing “music videos” at the home of my other friend Dave in Provo (times were simpler then, kids). Anyways, we must’ve listened to this song on the road because we re-created it at Dave’s house. Trent was the lead singer and when we got to the end where there’s that trail of “what I like about you” whisperings, he did one in Tiffany’s direction in what I perceived to be a romantic way (lol) and I remember being so mad at that (lol). My first tiff with Tiff. 😘
