Takin’ It To The Streets
Doobie Brothers
1976
Ah, the joke's on YOU, suckas! I said absolutely no Moody Blues anywhere near the top 100, but I most definitely did NOT place a ban on the one and only Michael McDonald. (In fact, I actually had no idea until I made that statement last year that Michael McDonald was even a part of Moody Blues - h/t to my boy DBE for dropping that knowledge!). So, this song was one of the last entries in the field. But I love this one; McDonald's vocals are on point and I'm a sucker for piano-backed songs and so the Doobies made a surprise late entry. And that opening line: "You don't know me, but I'm your brother..." Gold! Check out the linked video for what I mean about MM and his vocals and especially his tickling of the ivories (Brian B - there’s your gospel!). Also, check out what the guitarist does at 3:18. He tries to get the crowd revved up and then he's like, screw it, give me the tambourine. And then you know he was thinking this as he played it. Well done, Doobie guitarist guy.
