Phantom Limb
The Shins
2007
There are definitely bigger Shins fans out there than I am but this is a fun and talented band with some catchy songs. It’s the kind of band that makes you feel (or makes me feel, anyway) like you’ve been plopped back in your college days, and that’s a good thing, right? (And for the record, these guys were not around during my college days). James Mercer has a unique and interesting voice and I love the melodies in this hit from their third album. I also love how the song goes from a minor to major chord change in the chorus and back again. And don’t forget the sing-along chorus which I told you last week I’m all in on! Apparently the lyrics in this one tell an interesting story, but honestly I’ve not paid much attention to them. Just enjoy the melodies!
